Consideration by the Government on some measures for the telecom sector

New delhi date. Friday February 21, 2020

In a bid to get rid of such pressures, there has been a general consensus among the country's telecom sector leaders and government officials that the telecom sector, which has been financially strained during the last four to five days, should be recovered.

Telecom companies have come to pay Rs 1.8 trillion for adjusted gross revenue (AGR). With no payment from the court for these payments, telecom companies are now eyeing the government.

The Department of Telecommunication is considering how to provide relief to the companies after the introduction of the directors of the telecom companies, but the government is not in the mood to reduce the amount of AGR, a government official said. We are thinking of every step we can take to overcome this area.

It is also considering whether a telecom fund could be set up to provide loans to operators. If the telecom companies fail to pay the amount by March 8, the government is also considering whether to withdraw their bank guarantee.

The government has to ensure that telecom companies comply with the Supreme Court order. Telecom companies have started making payments and have paid Rs 5 crore so far.

To help government companies such as GAIL, PowerGrid Corp. and Oil India Ltd, the government does not plan to introduce any mandate to change the definition of AGR. The company needs to go to the telecom tribunal and seek relief against the demand notice issued by the telecom department.

There is so much pressure and stress in the telecom sector that the DOT is considering all possible steps to find a way.
