New delhi date. 18 July 2020, Saturday
There are encouraging signs for the country's agricultural sector and rural economy. Due to the progress of monsoon in the country, the sown area has been increasing since the beginning of June and the sown area has been consistently high.
By the end of July, the country's agricultural acreage was 31 per cent higher than the same period last year. Planting of every kharif crop such as oilseeds, pulses, paddy and pulses is on the rise.
Despite the initial disruption due to the lockdown, sowing is on the rise. Sources in the Ministry of Agriculture said that the kharif planting of Kovid-12 was not affected.
The country's agricultural sector, however, has been exempted from the lockdown. Despite the Corona epidemic, good rains have prepared farmers for sowing, which has not hampered the sale of fertilizers, seeds and farm implements.
As on July 15, kharif sowing has been completed on an area of 3 lakh hectares in the country as against 31 lakh hectares in the same period last year.
The Ministry of Agriculture expects the kharif sowing area to be higher than normal this year as the monsoon progresses. The good condition of the agricultural sector is considered favorable for the overall economy of the country.
Crops are also expected to reach record highs in the current kharif season as sowing area is high. The area under paddy is 18 lakh hectare as compared to 15 lakh hectare area. The area under pulses has increased from 31.50 lakh hectares to 21.5 lakh hectares.
The area under pulses has increased from 103 lakh hectares to 114.50 lakh hectares. The area under oilseeds was 12 lakh hectares as against 110 lakh hectares, while the area under cotton was 115 lakh hectares, up from 5.5 lakh hectares.
