Mumbai, Ta. September 17, 2019, Tuesday
Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) 's equity portfolio has hit more than Rs 5 crore in the current quarter as a result of heavy selling pressure on frontline stocks and weakness in the overall market.
LIC has invested heavily in Indian stock markets and its holdings in several companies are significant. At the end of the June quarter, LIC's holdings in listed companies were valued at Rs 1.8 trillion. At present prices, the value has come down to Rs 1.8 trillion.
This value is calculated from the announcement of its holdings in the companies listed by LIC for the June quarter. Talking about the current quarter, the Sensex has declined by about 8%. While the BSE midcap declined by 8 percent and smallcap by 8.5 percent.
Since the Modi government came to power at the Center, foreign investors' equities have been selling more than Rs. Indian stock exchanges usually have domestic institutional investors and foreign institutional investors waiting. If one is a seller, the other is the buyer.
