Ravi sowing begins at a slow pace: Impact on wheat sowing in Madhya Pradesh and Punjab

Due to the heavy rains in some areas of the country at the end of the monsoon season, rabi crops are being affected initially. According to the data released by the Ministry of Agriculture, till November 1, the total cultivation of acreage has been completed on an area of 1.5 lakh hectares in the country, which is down by 8% compared to the same period last year.
Ravi plowing was done on an area of 1.5 lakh hectares by November 3, 2010. However, due to the rains, the fields were also full of water. Due to the rains, the harvest of kharif crops was also delayed.
Wheat acreage is showing an average decline of 8.5% annually in the current season. Wheat cultivation in Punjab and Madhya Pradesh is declining, while in other states like Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, sowing area is almost the same as last year.
Wheat acreage has been cultivated on an area of 1.8 lakh hectares this year against 8 lakh hectares as of November 1 last year.
Pulses are also showing a decline of 5.5%. Generally, if the monsoon is good monsoon, it benefits the ravi crop. Because the soil has a high moisture content, but due to excess rainfall this year, the situation is not good for the Ravi crop initially, sources said. The acreage of chickpeas in pulses is showing a decline of 5 per cent while lentils are showing a decline of 8 per cent. The winter peanut crop is 5% higher than last year. Meanwhile, the surface water level is very good in every major reservoir in the country. The surface water level in the three main reservoirs is about 8.5 billion cubic meters, which is about 5% of total storage capacity.
Compared to the previous year, water availability was 5% higher, according to Central Water Commission data.
