Demand for Income Tax Officers to Declare 31, March 30 instead of March 31, 2019-20

Mumbai, 27 Mar 2020, Friday

Due to the corona epidemic, the central government has declared a 21-day lock-down and the government has ordered the closure of other businesses by continuing government essential services. Demands the government to extend the end date of -20 from 31st March, 2020 to 30th April 2020.

The Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes has been presented in writing to the Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes by the United Council of Income Tax Employees Federation and the Income Tax Gazetted Officers Association. It has suggested measures to prevent the spread of corona virus among employees of the Income Tax Department.

The presentation states that the government has taken precautionary measures to prevent corona viruses, which in our department are taking some other steps as per the government's guidelines, providing personal / hygienic material needs to some regional / station employees.

But in many offices across the country there is a worrying situation. However, such efforts are inadequate against the major risks facing employees, as there is a significant risk to employees' health from moving from home to offices and offices. In addition, 95 percent of our employees use public transportation to reach the office and advise government to avoid using public transportation as much as possible.

Due to such risks, educational institutions, theaters, malls and other institutions that come in direct contact with the public have been ordered to close in most states and many institutions have allowed their employees to work from home. The Income Tax Department has offered to consider the option of immediately closing the income tax offices across the country for the safety of income tax department employees, as they do not provide any urgent health emergency services.

In addition, the CBDT, through the Minister of Finance, has proposed to introduce the Union Cabinet to declare the fiscal year 2019-20 to be 31, March 2020 to 30, April 2020 and to announce the new fiscal year 2020-21 from 1, May 2020 instead of April 1, 2020.
