An estimated 8.10 crore jobs were lost in Asia-Pacific

Mumbai, Ta. 16 December 2020, Wednesday

The serious economic impact of the coronavirus has claimed an estimated 21 million jobs in the Asia-Pacific region this year, with young people and women being the hardest hit, according to a statement from the International Labor Organization.

Corona has hit the Asia-Pacific labor market hard. Low levels of social security and the limited capacity of governments in many countries have made it difficult for businesses and workers to return to work.

Compared to Corona's previous period, employment in the Asia-Pacific region has declined by 2.50 per cent, with 2.50 per cent women and 4 per cent men losing their jobs.

The reduction in working hours for workers has also affected their income, the statement said. In the first three quarters of the current year, workers' income fell by 2.50 per cent to 6.50 per cent of the region's GDP. The biggest impact on employment has been seen in South Asia.
