If you drive without FASTag, you will have to pay double toll tax from 15th February

New Delhi, Saturday 13 February 2021

Toll tax Toll tax will be paid only on FASTag from Monday 15th February at toll plazas across the country. If your vehicle does not have FASTag, you will get a big hit. Because vehicles without FASTag will be charged double toll tax.

It is noteworthy that the government has extended the deadline for implementation of FASTag several times. The government made FASTag mandatory from January 1. But the FASTag was extended to 15 February 2021 for four-wheelers across the country, giving vehicle owners some relief. But now the system of paying toll tax from FASTag from February 15 without any relief has been implemented.

This would be a double tax

Giridhar Arman, Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, has written a letter on February 12 to the NHAI, the Regional Officers (ROs) posted in the states and the Chief Secretaries of all the states. It said the central government was going to make the payment of toll tax mandatory on toll plazas across the country. 80 percent of the vehicles are fitted with FASTag. In addition, 40,000 Point of Sale (POS) has been distributed at Toll Plaza.

State governments have been asked to employ enforcement agencies to assist in the implementation of the FASTag system. The Ministry of Road Transport and NHAI will provide necessary facilities to the agencies. As a result, vehicles without FASTag can be charged double tax when they enter the FASTag lane of the toll plaza.

NHAI officials say up to 90 per cent of the toll tax is currently coming through FASTag. However, people who do not drive regularly on the highway still pay cash. A campaign is also being launched to awaken them.
