Information about Bio-Auxiliary in Textiles Industries

- Industrial Guidance : Dhiru Parekh

Why is bio-auxiliary required?

Textile processing is emerging as a growing industry today. But traditionally abundant water use, energy, harsh chemicals—starting with pesticides for cotton—growing to high amounts of wash-water—is an environmentally huge burden.

Environmentally Solutions:

Bio-auxiliary development is required in textile processing to reduce environmental burden. Enzyme- Nature Catalyst and Bio-Technology Based Textiles One Solution for Wet Processing.

What should Indian dyestuff and textile accessory manufacturers do?

- Develop environmentally safe products to replace restricted products.

- Develop innovative synthesis route to eliminate uninational impurity.

- Brig more awareness among textile producers for overall eco-toxicology requirements.

- Need to develop in-house capability for the evaluation of restricted ecological and toxicological parameters.

Eco-Friendliness and Eco-Regulation: Bio-auxiliary is biodegradable, bio-auxiliary- as per the rules will curb the increasing pollution load, it will be more user-friendly. Considering the medical and hygienic points, do not damage the human body contact, reduce the effluent generation, so that the effluent treatment cost can be reduced.

Natural Dyes and Pigments : Natural dyes can be obtained for natural dyes manufacturing from different wood barks, leaves, fruits, tea-extraction. Its use dates back to the nineteenth century when dyes produced from the plant were used as textile colors.

Comparison of Conventional (Energy Source) and Bio-Process in Textile :-

Conventional Process :- Bleaching (Oxidative Reductive) Disadvantage :AOX problem, strength loss, yellowing.

Bio-remedies :-Laccase/Peroxidases.Advantage:-Less strength loss compared to peroxide treatment, no-residue peroxide, no-use of stabilizer.

Conventional process :- Scouring

dis advantage :- Hazards as high BOD, COD, TDS levels. Rinsing Cost (Labor, Water, Corrosion) High Effluent Treatment Alter Morphology of Cotton Fiber Strong Neutralization Required

Bio-remedies :- Bio-scouring concept -advantage :- Milder Process, Less Environmental Impact. In terms of TDS, BOD & COD save energy water, element alkali neutralization.

Conventional Process :- Soaping

dis advantage :- Non-biodegradable. May increase alkalinity on the fabric.

Bio-remedies:-Enzymatic washing of reactive, Vate and indigo dyes with enzymes like laccase, lignin.

Advantage :- Excellent specificity, eco-friendly, biodegradable, save water and energy, cost effective, improve-fastness property.

License :- The license under the Industries Act and clearance from the Pollution Control Board becomes necessary.
