Please talk! Corona hopes car manufacturing companies will increase sales of motorcars
New Delhi, 24 May 2020 Sunday
Leading car manufacturing companies such as Maruti Suzuki, Honda, Toyota and Tata Motors are hoping to increase demand for private vehicle sales following fears of the Corona virus and social distance rules when meeting someone.
Companies believe that people will prefer to stay away from public transport. Maruti Suzuki India, the country's largest car maker, expects demand for low-cost cars to pick up after the lockdown.
"People will prefer private vehicles over public transport," said Shashank Srivastava, executive director (marketing and sales) of the company. This has also come to the fore in the Wound Consumer Survey.
"As economic activity slows down and people's purchasing power is affected, people will choose to buy smaller or lower priced cars for travel," he said. In particular, the number of customers who are buying a car for the first time will increase.
We are seeing that trend at about 1,800 of our own dealerships that have opened across the country in recent days. Srivastava said, "It has been seen before that in times of crisis, the consumer values the established brand."
The same was said by Rajesh Goyal, Senior Vice President and Marketing and Sales Director, Honda Cars India. "People will be more aware of the Covid-19 transition," he said. That is why people will give more importance to private vehicles instead of public transport. This will increase the sales of cars.
"Along with new cars of different models, people will also focus on buying second hand certified cars," he said. This will allow consumers to buy and use a good vehicle cheaply.
A spokesman for Toyota Kirloskar Motor said people could move to private vehicles to avoid the transition. However, it has to be kept in mind that consumer demand is going to be limited at present. It can remain so until the government takes steps to increase demand.
A Tata Motors spokesperson said the use of Covid-19 would reduce the use of public transport. This may increase the demand for private vehicles.
