Demand for skilled and semi-skilled workers rises 30 per cent in industry over the past week

New Delhi / Mumbai, May 22, 2020, Friday

Amidst a series of concessions given by the government to revive various industries in the midst of the implementation of the lockdown, the search for workers has begun to facilitate business operations as well as increase productivity. According to placement companies that provide various levels of labor to industries, providing labor has become a challenge in recent times.

Concessions were introduced by the government from the third phase of the lockdown to allow industrial activities to resume. Following the announcement of the implementation of the fourth phase of the lockdown, massive reliefs have also been announced for all industries. Which allows industries to operate at full capacity. But the industries have not benefited much from these concessions ... or they are less likely to thrive like before.

With the concessions, various industries need a large number of workers to speed up the production process and search for it has started. But there has been a huge backlash as workers have gathered in their hometowns.

The search for local workers has been initiated by various industries causing a shortage of routine workers. But even that has not been a success. According to placement companies, demand for skilled and semi-skilled workers has jumped by 30 per cent in the last one week. Currently, migrant workers are going home, which is likely to create a shortage of workers in the industry. Seeing that, it seems that there will be more shortage of workers in the coming days.

Manufacturers need skilled workers to operate the operating machine and work on the production line. In addition, unskilled workers are required for jobs such as packaging, logistics and sanitation. The week, which began on May 4, saw an almost massive shortage of workers in non-containment areas. The figure has risen steadily in the following weeks.

The demand for workers is expected to increase by around 20 per cent this week. Will now train people through industries to meet the shortage of skilled labor. And then they will be put to work immediately. In addition, the industry has asked its workers to find other workers. Some industries have workers from nearby areas so they may not face a shortage of workers.

But there are many areas where the shortage of workforce is a big challenge as such places have to rely more on workers from other states.

This situation is also likely to create competition for a short period of time to attract workers. It seems that industries that can pay higher wages will be spared. Despite all these measures, its production volume is likely to be affected if it does not get enough workers.
