New Delhi 19th August 2020 Wednesday
The Corona virus caused a complete lockdown in the country, resulting in the loss of 26.3 million jobs. Of these, 1.77 crore lost their jobs in April this year and the remaining 3.9 lakh in June. This information was given in a survey of CMIE (Center for Monitoring Indian Economy).
According to the CMIE report, 17.7 million people lost their jobs in April this year, followed by another 3.9 million in June. In July, once again, five million people were unemployed. CMIE said that under normal circumstances, conscientious objectors do not lose their jobs but once they lose their jobs, they do not get good jobs immediately. The loss of employment in such a large number of people is a matter of concern for the country's economy.
According to CMIE, in 2019-20, there were 19 million fewer jobs than there should have been, which means that so many people were unemployed. The number of jobs in the last financial year was 22 percent lower than the average. However, the situation has improved a bit since then and the number of jobs has increased to 32.56 crore in July this year from 31.76 crore in July last year. Thus, there was an increase of 2.5 per cent in jobs as compared to last year.
According to a CMIE report, small traders, hawkers and day laborers suffered heavy losses after a complete lockdown was announced in April. The sector employed 121.5 million people. Nine crore 12 lakh of them were severely affected.
