The DMRC announced on Monday that the financial losses incurred during the complete lockdown had forced the company to cut staff salaries and allowances with immediate effect. Everyone will be paid 15.75 per cent of basic salary. It was also announced that all allowances, including house building allowance, laptop allowance, festive allowance, multipurpose allowance, etc., would be canceled till further notice.
According to a report, the company has lost Rs 1,300 crore so far due to the closure of Metro Rail from March 22 this year. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation employs a total of 14,500 employees. Metro Rail has been closed since Prime Minister Narendra Modi imposed a public curfew on March 22 this year. Thus some traffic was now allowed to resume but the metro service is still closed. Under the circumstances, the company shocked thousands of employees by announcing a fifty per cent cut in staff salaries and allowances.
Earlier, Air India had announced a 40 to 50 per cent cut in the salaries of its pilots and crew. However, the salaries of Air India officials working at the desk were cut by only ten per cent.
