The current kharif production is expected to remain high for the last 25 years during the current monsoon

As the current monsoon has been the best in the last five years in the country, the grain production is also expected to drop 1 lakh tonnes more than the average of the last five years. The kharif grain production in the country is estimated to be around 8 million tonnes in the 2-3 season.
This year, rains have been modest or more in 5 percent of the country, according to a report.
Punjab farmers, who had high export demand last year, are likely to increase their rice crop from non-basmati to basmati by about 2.5 per cent.
Flooded areas of Bihar, Karnataka and Orissa have helped to increase the paddy area below the surface of the water, but it is unlikely that the impact of delay in sowing can be as much as half a percent.
Maize is expected to remain high, but pest attacks are expected to affect about 7.5 percent of its production. The report also estimates that the production of sorghum will go down by 8.5%.
Due to the good rains in early August, the cultivation of pulses and pulses in pulses remained high compared to last year and due to this the government has started to evacuate their stocks. Toure's production is projected to increase by up to twenty percent.
