New Delhi, December 14, 2019 Saturday

Prices of up to 21 life-saving drugs will be increased by 50% for the use of common man. The central government has decided to increase the prices of these medicines.

This is where prices of medicines are being affected because of their prices. These include antibiotic, anti-allergic, anti-malaria drugs, BCG vaccine and vitamin C drugs.

The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA), a subsidiary of the central government, has approved the increase in prices, amending paragraph 19 of the Drug Prize Control Order 2013. Earlier, this rule was used only to lower the prices of drugs.

Pharma Industries has been lobbying for the last two years on the increase in the price of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) of drugs. These include especially drugs that were imported from China. After the government's decision, the price of APIs will increase by 5 to 88 percent.

API costs also include 40 to 80 percent of the formulation cost. Just as paracetamol costs 80 percent of the API cost of the total product. Prices, vitamin C, antibiotic and anti-allergic medicines will rise.
