Commercial vehicle sales dropped 14 percent in January

Sales of various vehicles in the country declined during the previous January. Of which, the sale of commercial vehicles was the biggest decline of 5%.

According to data released by SIAM, the automobile sector organization, passenger vehicle sales were down 5 percent to 6,3 units in the last month. During this time, car sales declined by 8.5 percent to 5,7 units, compared to 6,8 units in the same period last year.

Vehicle sales in all categories were down by 8.5 percent to 3,5 units. This is up from 6,8,6 units in the same period last year. Commercial vehicle sales were down 5.2 percent to 5,9 units, up from 6,8 units in the same period last year.

SIAM President Rajan Vadhera said the total cost of vehicle purchase was affected by the increase in sales. Vehicle manufacturers have been increasing their production costs as the new BS-Emission regulations are due to be implemented from April 1.

In January, several companies also raised vehicle prices as their production costs went up.
