India's sugar exports to Malaysia increase drastically

Mumbai, Ta. 11 March 2020, Wednesday

India's sugar exports to Malaysia are almost three times the current year so far this year. Malaysia has been importing more sugar from here to try to please India after India restrained its imports from palm oil. The trade association sources said.

In the current year, Malaysia has so far imported 5 tonnes of sugar from India while India has exported 2.5 lakh tonnes of sugar to Malaysia in the last year. Malaysia imported a total of 1.2 lakh tonnes of sugar in the 5th. Malaysia generally imports more sugar from Brazil and Thailand than India.

India's sugar exports to Malaysia are likely to cross 4 lakh tonnes easily in the current year. Some shipments are currently in the process, an exporter said.

He also expressed the view that Malaysia might have asked its refiners to import sugar from Indian traders to kill India.
