The global price of aluminum touched a 13-year high

LONDON: The price of aluminum in the global market has soared to a 17-year high due to political unrest in Guinea.

At the London Metal Exchange on Wednesday, the metal futures traded up 1.2 per cent at ૨૮ 203 a tonne, and now it has jumped 20 per cent from its April low last year due to the global economic recovery and declining supply from China.

Last Sunday, a military coup seized power in Guinea, creating an atmosphere of instability in the African nation, which is a major source of bauxite used to make aluminum.

Even before the political turmoil in Guinea, analysts said a disruption in global supplies would break the record price of ડો 500 a tonne.
