India's exports will remain low as the global rice crop remains high

MUMBAI: India's non-basmati rice exports are expected to be lower than 2021 in the current year due to high rice crop in many countries of the world. Countries including Pakistan, Myanmar, Thailand, Bangladesh have seen abundant production of rice in the current year.

"Most of the countries have come out of the Corona and drought-like conditions and the structural deficiencies have been rectified," said an official of the Rice Exporters Association.

Demand for Indian rice from these countries will remain low due to high production in their own country. While global rice production is expected to remain high in 203, India's rice exports will not be seen at 2021 levels, he added.

Most of the rice-producing countries have started importing new goods and this has put domestic rice prices under pressure. Non-basmati prices are currently trading at થી 10 to પ્રતિ 15 per tonne lower than in October.

India's non-basmati exports are expected to touch 12 million tonnes in the current year. High freight rates and shortage of containers have affected transportation.
