New Delhi, 29 November 2022, Tuesday

Amid fears of a global recession, many multinational companies are laying off workers. At the same time, 100 companies in Britain have given their employees a big gift. 100 companies in the United Kingdom have announced that they will give their employees 4 days of work, i.e. 4 days on and 3 days off, in order to revive the UK economy, which is in the grip of rising inflation and recession. The special thing is that these companies have made it a rule for all employees to work four days a week permanently without cutting their salary.

Regarding this big announcement, these companies believe that by working 4 days a week, they will be able to bring a big change in the country. Around 2,600 employees work in these 100 companies.

Working 4 days will increase the productivity of companies

UK companies argue that working 4 days a week instead of 5 will motivate companies to improve their productivity, meaning they can deliver the same output using fewer hours. These 100 companies include two of Britain's largest companies, Atom Bank, and global marketing firm Avin, which embraces a 4-day work culture. Both companies have around 450 employees in the UK.

Adam Ross, chief executive of Evin, told The Guardian: “We are pioneering the most historic change by adopting a new working pattern. This not only improves customer service but also hones the talent of employees with less burden.

70 other companies around the world are doing trials

Apart from these 100 companies of Britain, 70 companies of the world are also working under the pilot project for 4 days. However, it is still in the trial stage. Around 3,300 people work in these companies. At the same time, researchers from Cambridge and Oxford as well as Boston University are researching this topic.

In the middle of the trial in September, when these companies were asked how the trial was going, more than 80 companies said that working 4 days was working well for their business. Joe Ryle, UK campaign director, said adoption of the four-day week was picking up momentum, although companies were bracing for a prolonged slowdown.
