Inflation hits June, retail inflation crosses 6%, food inflation 7.87%

Retail inflation crossed 6% during June amid the Corona epidemic. According to data released today, retail inflation has reached 6.09%. Inflation was 5.84% in March. Due to the Koro crisis, the government did not release inflation figures for April and May.
Retail inflation in rural areas stood at 6.2%, according to government data. Inflation in cities stood at 5.91%. Food inflation stood at 7.87%. Consumer food inflation stood at 9.2% in May. Food inflation has improved in both rural and urban areas. However the urban area saw a further decline.
Food inflation in urban areas stood at 6.92% during June, compared to 8.29% in May. While food inflation in rural areas declined to 8.41% from 9.68% in the previous month.
The Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation said in a statement that the inflation figures were based on data collected from a limited number of markets due to the Koro virus epidemic. According to the statement which figures have been taken. At the state level consumers do not meet sufficient criteria to estimate the value index. The government imposed a lockdown to prevent the corona virus. As a result, the CPI figures for April and May were not released.
