Unemployment Rate: In October-December 2022, the unemployment rate in the country decreased to 7.2 percent.

The unemployment rate of people aged 15 years and above in urban areas of the country fell to 7.2 percent in the October-December quarter of calendar year 2022. In the same period in 2021, this rate was 8.7 percent. Meanwhile, the unemployment rate in the country was high due to the impact of the Covid-related restrictions.
According to the latest data from the National Sample Survey Office, the unemployment rate for people aged 15 years and above was 7.2 percent in July-September 2022, 7.6 percent in April-June 2022 and 8.2 percent in January-March 2022.
According to the statistics, the unemployment rate for males (15 years and above) in urban areas declined to 6.5 percent in the October-December quarter of 2022 from 8.3 percent in the same quarter a year ago. The unemployment rate of urban women in this age group dropped from 10.5 percent to 9.6 percent.
Labor participation increased to 48.2 percent
According to NSSO, labor force participation in urban areas increased to 48.2 percent for those aged 15 years and above. In the same period of 2021, this share was 47.3 percent. This was 47.9 percent in July-September 2022 and 47.5 percent in April-June, 2022.
