In 2022, India's economy will have the highest growth rate in the world: IMF

New Delhi, 13 October 2021, Wednesday

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has predicted that the year 2022 will prove to be very good for the Indian economy.

The corona caused the economy to shrink by 7.3 per cent during 2020-21 but is now recovering rapidly. This is also being supported by the IMF. According to the latest estimates released by the IMF, India's economy will grow at 9.5 per cent in 2021 and 8.5 per cent in 2022. Besides, India's economy will be the fastest growing economy in the world.

The global growth rate is projected to be 5.9 per cent in 2021 and 4.9 per cent in 2022, according to the latest estimates.

The growth rate of America, the world's largest economy, is projected at 6 percent this year and 5.2 percent next year. China's economy will grow at 8 percent in 2021 and 5.6 percent in 2022. Britain will be second with a growth rate of 6.8 per cent this year, France third with a growth rate of 6.5 per cent and next with a growth rate of 6 per cent.

Geeta Gopinath, chief economist at the IMF, says India is doing well on the corona vaccination front and is helping the economy. There is no change in the estimates we have made for India.
