Agricultural exports fall 10.6 percent during April-June quarter

Due to various adversities, agricultural exports from the country during the first quarter of the current financial year, April-June, have declined by 5.5 percent.

According to data disclosed by Apeda, a nodal agency that promotes agricultural exports, agriculture exports amounted to Rs 1 crore during the April-June quarter. During the same period last year, Rs. 3 crore was exported. Thus, agricultural exports from the country were down by 5.5 percent.

The shipments of basmati rice during the proposed time period declined to 5.7 million tonnes, compared to 5.5 million tonnes in the same period last year.

However, the export of non-basmati rice and pulses declined significantly. In the June quarter of this year, 1.8 million tonnes of non-basmati rice was exported. That was 5.5 million tonnes in the same period last year.

During this time, the export of pulses also declined significantly. In the June quarter of last year, pulses exports were 2.4 lakh tonnes, down from 5 tonnes in the June quarter this year.

In addition, exports of fresh fruit, processed vegetables, juices also declined this year compared to the previous year.
