New Delhi, August 11, 2019, Sunday

About 100 employees of the online food delivery platform Zomato have lost their jobs. The company has taken this step as part of the cost cutting. Employees have been removed from the customer support team at the company's Gurgaon office. The company wants to eliminate unnecessary workforce so this has worked.

According to a company spokesperson, the service quality of the company has improved over the last few months and the need for support for orders has decreased. There is a lot of gaps in the work and the workforce. The company made this decision as the workforce in the customer support department is more than needed.

However, there are also discussions within the company that the company is automating its customer service in the backend. Zomato costs 4-5 rupees for customer support per order. The company does not want to spend on human resources. Because of this they are reducing the workforce.

According to a survey, the online food ordering market in the country will reach $ 17 billion by 2023. The market is growing at a rate of 16%. Experts estimate that both Swiggy and Zomato spend $ 50 million a month. Zomato gets 40 million orders per month against it, while Swiggy gets 30 million orders.
