Slow increase in capacity utility of auto parts manufacturing units
Mumbai, Ta. 13 October 2020, Tuesday
Due to the increase in auto volumes in the last few months, auto parts manufacturers have also been working on 6 to 7 per cent of capacity utilization before the Covid-12 in the September quarter.
With the exception of companies manufacturing parts for commercial vehicles, most auto components manufacturers are seeing a significant improvement in the situation. Demand for commercial vehicles has not improved.
The June quarter saw a sharp decline in order books, leading to an atmosphere of despair among companies. Despite the improvement in September, auto parts companies are still cautious.
The upcoming festive season will be a test of strength for the overall vehicle industry.
Demand from consumers continues to push but the supply chain is currently becoming a major challenge. "We hope the demand will continue after the festivals," said an official of the Auto Component Manufacturers Association.
Demand will continue during the festivals but it remains to be seen what the situation will be after that, said an auto parts dealer. In the June quarter, auto components companies were operating at 20 to 5 per cent of capacity.
Demand for auto parts manufactured in the country is also increasing due to the boycott of Chinese goods. Even though the lockdown has eased, companies are still facing a shortage of workforce.
