Sensex lost 396 points to end up 173 to 66119


MUMBAI: On the global front, Indian stock markets snapped a six-day slide today as the property market in China continues to face fresh crises, while sentiment in global markets remains subdued as bond yields in Germany hit 12-year highs in Germany and 16-year highs in the U.S. on the other hand, Reliance, Larsen & Toubro, ITC, Maruti Suzuki led the fund's boom and took a U-turn. At the beginning of trading, selling in banking-finance stocks and selling in Nestlé India, Titan Company, etc. initially saw the Sensex drop by 396 points to 65549.96. 69 was closed. The Nifty spot initially fell by 110.70 points and then came back to a low of 19554 and finally rose 51.75 points to close at 19716.45.

Reliance increased by Rs.28 to Rs.2369

Sensex, the frontline stocks that played a major role in giving a U-turn to the Nifty-based market, today closed at Rs 2369.10, up by Rs 27.55 on heavy buying by funds in Reliance Industries. Funds bought heavily in Reliance Industries on reports of Abu Dhabi Investments making a major investment in Reliance Retail. Along with this, funds increased by Rs.49.40 to Rs.2961.70 amid buyback of shares in Larsen & Toubro. While ITC increased by Rs.6.70 to Rs.449.10, Maruti Suzuki increased by Rs.150.05 to Rs.10,699.65, Sun Pharma Industries increased by Rs.16.25 to Rs.1141.

Broad rally in small, mid cap stocks

The prices of many stocks increased with the market breadth becoming positive due to widespread fund buying in small, mid cap stocks today. BSE Small Cap Index rose 251.71 points to 37476.71 and BSE Mid Cap Index rose 243.37 points to close at 32309.87. Out of the total 3799 scrips traded in BSE, the number of gainers was 1956 and the number of decliners was 1704.

Investors' wealth increased by Rs.1.46 lakh crore

In stocks today, especially small, mid-cap stocks, with a boom in frontline stocks, funds bought heavily, the wealth of investors, that is, the aggregate market capitalization of companies listed in BSE, increased by Rs. 1.46 lakh crore to Rs. 319.61 lakh crore in a day.
