Mumbai: As February 1 approaches, the Finance Ministry is finalizing the budget for the next financial year. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and her team are giving final touches to the budget documents, government sources said.

The budget is being prepared in constant consultation between a team of officials from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) and the Finance Ministry. Schemes or schemes started with the directives of Prime Minister Narendra Modi are getting a lot of attention.

After Morarji Desai, current Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is the second Finance Minister to present the budget for the sixth consecutive time.

The full budget for the financial year 2024-25 will be presented by the new government to be formed after the Lok Sabha elections. The budget of 1st February will be interim.

In the interim budget, the current government does not make major policy announcements, which puts a financial burden on the new government.

According to the Election Commission's code of conduct, the current government cannot announce any popular scheme that would influence the voters, the sources further said.
