Fuel sales fell 30 percent from the time before the lockdown

- Even a slight increase in demand in the four stages of unlock will take three to four months for the situation to come to a head
After the implementation of the long lockdown in the state of Gujarat in all four phases of unlock business-industries are thriving again, the sale of petrol and diesel in the state is 30% less than the time before the lockdown.
According to the data of Gujarat Petroleum Dealers Association, before the lockdown, i.e. till last February, the average sales of petrol in the state was 120 million liters.
During the period under review, diesel sales averaged 30 million liters. It has been only 110 million liters after the lockdown.
Demand for petrol-diesel increased during the month of August following various concessions announced by the government in four phases of unlock. At the end of August, sales of petrol stood at 120 million liters and diesel at 8 million liters.
According to economic experts, after four phases of unlock, all businesses-employment-industries have revived. But they are only working at 30 to 40 per cent capacity. In addition, clubs, tourism, hotels are currently operating in a very limited amount.
People avoid traveling as much as possible due to adverse circumstances. On the other hand, fuel consumption in the industrial sector has also halved. This has led to a significant drop in sales. Corona cases have seen a significant increase again recently. Seeing that, the situation does not seem to be stable for the next 4 to 4 months. Thus, given this situation, fuel demand is likely to remain low in the near future.
