Online sales of 1 in 4 mobiles, India's largest

MUMBAI: Smartphone sales have skyrocketed even during the Corona crisis, with online selling accounting for the largest share of total sales. According to a research report, online sales accounted for about 5 per cent of the global mobile phone market in 2020, with India leading the way at 4 per cent, followed by the UK at 4 per cent and China at 4 per cent.

This means that one out of every four mobiles sold worldwide during the year 2020 has been sold online. The Corona epidemic has played a major role in this change in consumer behavior.

In addition, during the year 2020, the share of online handset sales has increased by 9% year-on-year while the market size has expanded by 10%.

The research agency said the trend of online sales of mobile phones was strong in emerging markets such as India and Latin America, as well as in countries such as the US and Europe.

In China, where the first case of corona virus was reported, online sales peaked in the first six months but declined in the second six months.

However, the US and India recorded the highest online share during the second half of 2020.

The research agency said that the trend of increasing online shareholding will slow down for a while and may be equal to or slightly lower than last year.

After rapidly expanding in the year 2020, now in the year 2021, after the vaccination of corona is expected to see some relief. However, it is expected to grow slightly every year after 203, thanks to growth in the emerging market and the middle-aged population becoming accustomed to using IT devices and the Internet.
