Prices of televisions, freezers and laptops will rise again

AHMEDABAD: The Koro epidemic has adversely affected the supply chain. As a result, prices of consumer durable products such as TVs, freezers, ACs and laptops are likely to rise. This is because the companies that make these products are getting expensive raw materials. There is also a shortage of essential components. However, the relaxation in the lockdown has led to the opening of retail outlets that are selling products to consumers at huge discounts.

So far in 2021, companies have raised the prices of consumer appliances twice, which could rise by another 10 per cent in July. Lack of essential components like microprocessors and panels, increase in the price of copper in raw materials and metals as well as increase in customs duty to reduce the dependence on imports on parts have led to an increase in the cost of these home appliances.

Most experts say that the growth of work-from-home culture and online schooling has led to a sharp rise in demand for laptops. As a result, prices have risen by 2-3 per cent, which is likely to continue. On the rise in prices, companies say they are bearing some of the rising costs themselves and passing it on to some customers.
