Shipments of smartphones fell 13 percent in the June quarter

MUMBAI: The second wave of the Corona epidemic has exacerbated economic uncertainty and forced people to cut unnecessary spending. As a result, shipments of smartphones, or imports, to India fell by 12 per cent to 25 million units during the June quarter. This has been countered in a leading research.

According to the research report, during the first wave of the Corona epidemic in 2020, the situation remained favorable for the smart market despite a two-month nationwide lockdown during the April-June quarter, with shipments expected to grow by 3 per cent. However, shipments of smartphones to India have declined during the second wave this time due to economic uncertainty.

China's leading mobile company had the largest market share of 9 per cent in smartphone shipments in India during the June quarter. Since then, the South Korean mobile company has had a 15 per cent stake.

During Corona's second wave of transition cases, lockdowns and stricter sanctions were again imposed at the local level, leading to a decline in people's incomes and consequently limited spendingable income.

However signs of recovery appeared at the end of the June quarter thanks to a rapid corona vaccination campaign and a reduction in corona infection cases.

According to the report, rapid vaccination in India during the second half of 2021, as well as promotional activities of brands and the introduction of new products will help. Of course, the other six months will not see the same significant growth as last year. This is because a third wave of Corona epidemic is still feared in India. The impact of a potential third wave should be minimal in order for consumer behavior and industrial performance to remain flexible in the event of an epidemic.
