55 percent increase in demand for festival related services after two years

After two years of celebrating Navratri and Durga Puja with simplicity due to Covid restrictions, the demand for services such as mandap decorators, idol artisans and caterers for Navratri and Durga Puja this year has increased significantly, giving India's gig economy a much-needed boost, concluded JustDial Consumer. Insights report revealed.

Demand for a wide range of festival services such as idol artisans, mandap decorators, sweet shops, flower decorators, puja item dealers and caterers for Navratri and Durga Puja in 100 cities and towns across India has grown by 29 per cent year-on-year. Demand has increased by 33 percent in tier-1 cities and 60 percent in tier-II cities.

A significant improvement in consumer sentiment after two challenging years is reflected in an increase in demand for a wide range of festival services. The demand for mandap decorators across the country increased by up to 124 percent. Demand for caterers increased by up to 55 percent and demand for idol artisans increased by up to 23 percent.

The increase in searches in Tier-2 cities also indicates that it is important for all businesses to have an online presence to increase their reach. The upcoming festival season is expected to give a much-needed boost to a wide range of service providers.

Corresponding to the increased demand for the services mentioned above, there was also an increase in demand for puja item dealers, flower decorators and sweet shops ahead of the festive season across India. Searches increased by 16 percent for dealers in worship items, 18 percent for sweet shops and 8 percent for flower decorators.

Tier-I cities saw an increase of 118 per cent in demand for mandap decorators, 29 per cent for idol artisans, 36 per cent for caterers, 21 per cent for dealers in worship items, up to 13 per cent for sweet shops. So the demand for flower decorators remained steady. For Durga Puja celebrations in Kolkata, this East Indian metropolis saw the highest demand for idol artisans, followed by Delhi and Mumbai.

While the demand for mandap decorators was mainly driven by the cities of Kolkata, Delhi and Mumbai. At that time, the demand for flower decorators was high in Mumbai, Delhi and Hyderabad. While searches for caterers for Durga Puja and Navratri celebrations increased in Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata, online searches for sweet shops remained high in Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru. Tier-2 cities saw a huge year-on-year increase in online searches for festival services, almost double the searches seen in tier-1 cities.
