From September 1, 2015, the government accepted the demand for second and fourth Saturday holidays in banks. Now banks are asking for holiday on all Saturdays of the week.

That is, not only Saturday-Sunday holiday but also Friday should be added to it, i.e. the holiday starts from Thursday evening itself and it lasts till Sunday. Duty will start again from Monday.

There was a time when labor hours were not fixed. The hours were fixed after the independence of the country. Work was done as per the Factories Act. But for people involved in office work even today the time to go to the office is fixed but the time to leave the office is never fixed. Government jobs are more time intensive than private jobs.

There are no public holidays etc. like in government jobs in private jobs. In government jobs there are no benefits other than increment whereas in private companies work is mostly appreciated. In government jobs one has to retire after 58 years whereas in private companies there is no age limit.

The work of the government employees is rarely appreciated and even with the force of his cleverness, he cannot move to another account, while the employee of private companies can increase his financial prosperity by jumping to a place where the salary is higher.

Loyalty does not cost a government employee while private companies nurture loyal employees. For example, look at last week's reports in which Reliance's Mukesh Ambani gifted a 350 crore bungalow to his loyal staff. Some people gift cars to the staff on Diwali while some provide other facilities. This is rarely seen in the case of government employees (i.e., some are involved in corruption).

The concept of working four days in a week in India may seem impossible at first sight, but even when it was talked about giving the second and fourth Saturdays off in banks, people were not ready to accept it. The IT industry in India started in the year 1977, today its contribution to India's GDP is about 7.4 percent. Which can be called incredible.

The concept of work from home is most prevalent in the IT sector. The demand for four days work in a week has also started from the IT sector itself. But now the Tamil Nadu government has also taken the initiative to amend the Factory Act.

Whether one believes it or not, one is thinking of starting a four-day work week system. A bill has been introduced to amend the Factories Act, 1948 in Tamil Nadu. According to this bill, work will have to be done for four days in a week, but the working hours will be reduced to twelve hours instead of eight hours a day. Who doesn't like three days off in a row after working four hours extra a day? The Tamil Nadu government says that women employees and housewives will benefit most from the four-day leave.

The Labor Welfare Minister of Tamil Nadu has announced that four days of work in a week will not affect other entitlements of employees like holidays. He has also said that the scheme is voluntary. Each factory can use the new holiday system in its own way.

Karnataka government has also passed a similar bill in 2022. When workers at Apple's Foxconn company went on strike, the settlement formula included a four-day work week. That point was approved.

A four-day work week is something to imagine. We are constantly comparing work there with donkeys. People cannot enjoy life with family. Due to continuous work, one cannot fulfill the household responsibilities properly and also cannot enjoy family happiness. In short, his life becomes stereotyped so brain power cannot be utilized to the maximum.

Companies in foreign countries where the four-day work week concept has been introduced have noted that the four-day work allows the employee to spend the remaining days off with his family and focus on home development. A three-day vacation after four days of continuous work can bring relief to an employee and his family.
