Sugar production forecast reduced: Ethanol will also have less volume available now
Mumbai: The Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA) has cut the production estimate for the current sugar season (October 2022 to September 2023) by 3.50 percent. Due to low sugar production, the supply of sugar for ethanol has also been reduced by 11 percent.
For the current season, ISMA had earlier estimated production of 340 lakh tonnes after converting 45 lakh tonnes of sugar into ethanol, but now it is estimated at 328 lakh tonnes after converting 40 lakh tonnes to ethanol.
In the meeting held on April 25 of Isma, it has been found that the production of sugar in the country has been 311 lakh tons so far. The crushing season has ended in Maharashtra and sugar production has come in below estimates at 105 lakh tonnes.
A statement issued by ISMA said that sugar production in Maharashtra is witnessing low production due to low yield from sugarcane.
13.20 percent decrease in sugar production is seen in Maharashtra. Diversion of sugar for ethanol is also seen in Maharashtra.
After Maharashtra, crushing operations in Karnataka are about to be completed. The statement also said that five lakh tonnes of sugar has been produced in Karnataka so far.
Uttar Pradesh is expected to produce 10.5 lakh tonnes of sugar in the current season due to good yields.
