It is claimed that the sale of e-two wheelers under the Fame-Two scheme has reached only fifty percent of the target.
Mumbai: While the government is making efforts to increase the sales of electric vehicles to reduce pollution in the country, the sales of electric vehicles have slowed down as a result of some measures of the government which have not succeeded in their own efforts.
In order to increase the sales of electric vehicles in the country, the Faster Adoption of Electric Vehicles Scheme-2 launched by the government in 2019 is about to end, but the sales of electric two-wheelers under this scheme are nowhere near the target. The scheme is ending in March 2024. Earlier the scheme was scheduled to end in March 2022 but it has been extended.
The Society of Manufacturers of Electric Vehicles has claimed that the government is responsible for the failure of the scheme.
A target of one million electric powered two wheelers was set under the scheme. Under the scheme, the government had prepared a Rs 10,000 crore scheme to encourage vehicle manufacturers.
The government is claiming that 9.60 lakh electric two wheelers have been sold under the scheme, but in fact the claim is wrong and the government has provided subsidy for the sale of only five lakh electric two wheelers during the period from April 2019 to April 2023. According to the society, this means that 4.50 lakh two wheelers are yet to get subsidy.
The government is protesting the withdrawal of subsidies for some manufacturers by the industry.
Under the scheme, a target has been set to provide relief to one lakh electric two wheelers and lakhs of other electric vehicles. A total of 8.80 lakh electric vehicles have been subsidized till February under the scheme.
It is also seen from the obtained figures that out of Rs 2903 crore allocated under the scheme for the financial year 2023, the government has allocated only Rs 1217 crore.
