In addition to the increase in economic activity, power demand will remain high following a hot summer

New Delhi: Along with the increase in industrial activity in the country, the demand for power is also increasing drastically. According to government statistics, electricity consumption has increased by more than eight percent year-on-year to 127.78 billion units in the month ended February.

In the current year, the summer is expected to be hot and the increase in industrial activity is expected to increase the power demand in the coming days.

This year, due to the leap year, as there were 29 days in February, the figure of power consumption was higher than last year's February, government sources said.

In February, the highest demand for electricity was 222 giga watts. North India is believed to have seen an increase in power demand as the temperature remains low and the cold gets colder.

With the increase in economic activity in the country, it is expected to see an increase in power demand from industries. Apart from this, in the current year, in view of the expectation that the heat temperature will rise in the beginning of summer, the use of AC and cooler will increase, due to which the power demand may also increase.

To avoid load shedding in the country, the government last year instructed the coal-fired power plants to operate at full capacity, which may be seen this year as well.
