Sensex rises 195 points to 72500 on attractiveness in auto, banking stocks at end of volatility


MUMBAI: Indian stock markets today remained in the positive zone in select frontline-heavyweight stocks at the end of index-based heavy volatility, against overall caution in global markets following the softening of US markets ahead of the release of US inflation data. Funds gained in banking stocks along with automobile heavyweights and some metal-mining, IT FMCG, cement, consumer durables stocks. Of course, today the index-based Sensex fluctuated between 72099 and 72730 and finally increased by 195.42 points to close at 72500.30. While the Nifty 50 spot index showed great volatility between 21860 and 2061, it finally increased by 31.65 points to close at 21982.80.

Auto stocks up: Mahindra rises by Rs.41 to Rs.1942: Maruti up by Rs.110, Bosch up by Rs.250

Stocks of automobile companies were heavily bought by hedge funds today. Mahindra & Mahindra increased by Rs.41 to Rs.1942, Apollo Tires increased by Rs.5.90 to Rs.512.85, Maruti Suzuki increased by Rs.110.40 to Rs.11,261, Bosch increased by Rs.250.10 to Rs.28, 564.35, TVS Motor rose by Rs.14.95 to Rs.2108.45, MRF rose by Rs.425.80 to Rs.1,46,303.10. The BSE Auto Index rose 86.87 points to close at 46819.30. Bajaj Auto fell by Rs.225.80 to Rs.7987.65, Tube Investments fell by Rs.72.25 to Rs.3465.85, Eicher Motors fell by Rs.77.25 to Rs.3788.20, Tata Motors fell by Rs.7.35 It was Rs.950.40.

SKF rises Rs 217 to Rs 4740: Suzlon, Sona BLW, LG Equipment, Thermax rise

The BSE Capital Goods Index rose by 368.48 points to close at 57414.63 as lower funds bought again in capital goods stocks today. SKF India rose by Rs 216.85 to Rs 4739.75, Suzlon NG rose by Rs 1.99 to Rs 45.12, Sona BLW rose by Rs 29.60 to Rs 689.45, LG Equipment rose by Rs 23.95 650.50, Carborundum rose by Rs.22.95 to Rs.1078.40, CG Power Semi Conductors rose by Rs.16.05 to Rs.443.85 on the report of setting up a manufacturing facility in the joint venture, Siemens rose by Rs.95.30 to Rs. 4677.85, Thermax rose by Rs.54.15 to Rs.3635.80.

Banking stocks: IndusInd rises by Rs.26 to Rs.1475: BOB, State Bank, ICICI rise

Banking-finance stocks were also the preferred buy of funds today. IndusInd Bank rose by Rs 26.25 to Rs 1,475.40 today after NCLT cleared Hinduja Group's IndusInd to acquire Reliance Capital. Bank of Baroda increased by Rs.4.45 to Rs.266.15, State Bank of India increased by Rs.6.95 to Rs.749.30, ICICI Bank increased by Rs.7.30 to Rs.1053.45, Kotak Bank increased by Rs.7 .25 increased to Rs.1690.80. Paisalo Digital rose by Rs.25.55 to Rs.184.30, Bajaj Holdings rose by Rs.611.70 to Rs.9310, Crisil rose by Rs.275 to Rs.5133.95, Religare rose by Rs.10.80 to Rs.240.55, Tata Investment Corporation rose by Rs.286 to Rs.7271.55.

Tata to set up country's first mega semiconductors plant : Boom in Tata Technology, Tata Alexi, Tata Inv.

Shares of Tata Group companies were buoyed today by Cabinet approval for setting up the country's first semiconductor fab in a joint venture with Taiwanese giant PSMC in the semiconductor sector. Tata Technologies increased by Rs.38.70 to Rs.1084.80, Tata Investment Corp increased by Rs.286 to Rs.7271.55, Tata Communications increased by Rs.10.85 to Rs.1922.65, Tata Alexi increased by Rs.195.50 to Rs. 7786.70, Tata Power rose by Rs.5.65 to Rs.371.70.

Profit booking in healthcare stocks: Max Healthcare, Bajaj Health, Global Health, Apollo Hospitals declined

Shares of healthcare-pharmaceuticals companies witnessed overall profit booking today. Max Healthcare decreased by Rs.54.90 to Rs.795.10, Bajaj Health decreased by Rs.21.10 to Rs.335.20, Rainbow Child decreased by Rs.85.25 to Rs.1356.25, Apollo Hospital decreased by Rs.250.20 6105.90, JB Chemicals fell by Rs.47.50 to Rs.1556.65, Sanofi India fell by Rs.197.45 to Rs.8635.

Market breadth modestly positive as select valuing of small, mid cap stocks: 1898 stocks gained

Market breadth turned moderately positive today as funds reduced valuations in good stocks after yesterday's massive wash in small, mid cap stocks. Of course, offloading continued in many stocks. Out of the total 3909 scrips traded in BSE, the number of gainers was 1898 and the number of decliners was 1893.

FPI/FII's net purchase of shares Rs.3568 crore : DII's net sale of Rs.230 crore

Foreign Portfolio Investors-FPIs, FIIs had a net purchase of Rs.3568.11 crore in cash today. A total of Rs.51,024.18 crore was sold against a total purchase of Rs.54,592.29 crore. While DII-domestic institutional investors saw net selling of shares worth Rs.230.21 crore today. A total of Rs.11,635.45 crore was sold against a total purchase of Rs.11,405.24 crore.
