Huawei and ZTE may not be involved in the 5G trial, the government will announce

New Delhi, 14 August 2020 Friday

India has been cracking down on Chinese companies since the border dispute. The government is preparing to remove Huawei and ZTE from the 5G trial. The government may soon announce a ban on both companies. The central government had on July 23 amended the rules on foreign investment in the interest of national security.

According to the new rules, countries with which India's border is divided by land will have to seek necessary approval before investing. According to sources familiar with the matter, South Asian countries will now have to get the necessary approvals before investing in India under the new rules.

According to sources, the telecom ministry will soon begin the process of approving the pending applications of private companies for the 5G trial. Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio Infocomm and Vodafone Idea have applied for 5G trials but have been delayed due to a nationwide lockdown.

The 5th auction may be postponed to next year

The United States, Britain and Australia have closed the doors to 5G trials for Chinese companies affiliated with the Chinese government. India will also take steps in this direction. The Federal Communications Commission has declared Huawei and ZTE a threat to national security.

According to an official, the 5G auction process may be postponed to next year. Sources said the announcement of the ban on the two Chinese companies could be made within a week or two after the approval of the Prime Minister's Office.

A big challenge for Reliance Huawei

The world's second largest wireless market in India could pose a major challenge for domestic company Reliance Huawei. That's because Mukesh Ambani announced at the company's AGM on July 15 that Geo Infocomm is ready for a 5G network rollout.

Mukesh Ambani said that Geo has developed the entire 5G technology in-house. Reliance Group says they will not have to spend as much as competitors to move to the new system.
