An indication of an improvement in trade activity

Mumbai, Ta. 10 November 2020, Tuesday

The improvement in the country's trade activity in October is showing signs of continuing in November as well. The first week of November saw an increase in economic indices. The brokerage firm Nomura's India Business Resumption Index rose to a high of 8.30 on the weekend of November 9, indicating pre-lockdown conditions.

The index had stood at 7.50 in the week before November 8. The index, which tracks the attendance of workers from mobility to 8.30 in the week before the lockdown, ended at 8.30 in the week ended March 8.

The first week of November saw a 4.50 per cent increase in power demand, down from 2.50 per cent in the previous week, according to a report from Nomura.

Demand for the festival, discounts in lockdowns and a reduction in Corona cases have resulted in an increase in trade activity. If the situation continues in the coming weeks, the October operation will continue in November, the report said.
