India's fuel demand rose for the first time in eight months in October. Fuel demand has been declining since February this year. Fuel demand has increased in the country due to the decline in corona cases, increased mobility and the pace of economic recovery.

Consumption of refined fuels, an alternative to oil demand, rose by 2.50 per cent year-on-year to 15 million tonnes in October. According to the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell, consumption has increased by 12 per cent compared to September. Cowid's cases are also coming down to a level where demand is returning to normal, an analyst said.

Fuel demand is expected to increase further as public transport services continue to grow. Diesel consumption in October rose by 2.50 per cent year-on-year to 3.50 lakh tonnes. On a monthly basis, consumption has increased by 3%. Diesel accounts for about 50 per cent of the country's overall refined fuel sales.
