Massive layoffs in Google: 12,000 employees will be laid off in one fell swoop

Due to the fear of falling consumer demand, recession is spreading around the world and especially the IT sector, which has grown rapidly during the corona period and later, has to face the oat. Google's parent Alphabet has decided to cut 12,000 jobs, as previously announced, along with top companies including Twitter, Amazon, Microsoft, Meta. The number of 12,000 employees is more than 6 percent of the company's total global workforce.

Chief Executive Officer Sundar Pichai told employees in an email on Friday, “I take full responsibility for getting to this point. These layoffs will affect globally and across segments. Alphabet will pay these laid-off employees 16 weeks of severance pay and six months of health benefits in the U.S. and will be paid elsewhere in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

HR consulting firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas Inc. According to 2022, the largest job cuts were seen in the tech sector. Last year there were 97,171 retrenchments, a 649% increase over the previous year.

Google has recently taken steps to cut costs by canceling the next-generation Pixelbook laptop, permanently shutting down its cloud gaming service, Stadia. In early January, Alphabet's biotech unit, Verily, said it would also lay off 15 percent of its staff.
