Vodafone Idea defaults in payment of license fee to Govt, all services may be terminated

Ahmedabad. 19 January 2023, Thursday

Vodafone Idea, one of the leading companies in the telecom sector, has had an uphill climb day by day. A company that cannot pay the license fee becomes a defaulter. A company may receive a show cause notice from the government for non-payment of license fee to the government. If the company cannot give a satisfactory answer to the government in this regard, then the process of canceling the license of the company can also be initiated by the government.

According to media reports, the telecom has paid only 10 percent of the license fee in the last quarter. Vodafone Idea has a total of Rs. 780 crore as license fee, the government has only Rs. 78 crores have been deposited. The company has also not paid full Spectrum UAZ charges. However, the company has one month to pay the money including interest.

In the next two to three days, the government will issue a show cause notice to the company. After that, the process of canceling the license can also be started.

The company has to pay more interest than the market rate for the license fee and the company is already short of funds. Banks were also contacted for financial arrangements but the company could not get money from there.
