If you want to travel outside India and you don't have a passport, no need to worry. Now you can apply for passport from the comfort of your home. Applying for a passport online is a simple process. You can submit your application from the comfort of your home.

How to apply for passport online?

  • First of all, you have to go to the Passport Service website and get yourself registered. If you already have an account, then login to it.
  • After this click on Apply for Fresh Passport / Passport Re-Issue.
  • An application will be issued, fill all the details asked in it. Then tap on submit.
  • Now again go to the home page and click on View Saved/Submitted Applications.
  • After this click on pay and schedule appointment.
  • You can book an appointment at a passport service centre.
  • Select the option and proceed for payment.
  • After the process is completed, download the application receipt. For this click on Print Application Receipt.
  • You will receive appointment details.
  • You must carry all the original documents with you while going to the passport service center.

Proof of current address

This includes any utility bill, tax assessment order, Election Commission photo ID, Aadhaar card, rent agreement and a copy of the parent's passport. Any of these can be used.

Proof of date of birth

Any one of Birth Certificate, Aadhaar Card, Voter ID Card and PAN Card can be used.

How long will the passport arrive at home?

The passport is sent by speed post to the address provided by the applicant while filling the passport application. Processing time for normal passport is 30 to 45 days. Whereas for applications made under Tatkal mode, the passport application time is 7 to 14 days. You can track the delivery status by visiting the tracking utility facility available on India Post's Speed ​​Post portal.
