47 percent gap in solar power generation capacity addition in nine months
- Delay in completion of project due to issues related to land acquisition and power transmission
Mumbai: While there are discussions at various levels to increase the use of renewable energy to reduce pollution, including in India, the addition of solar power generation capacity fell by 47 percent to 5.60 GW in the January-September period of the current year due to delays in project implementation.
According to a report, the addition of solar power generation capacity in the first nine months of the current calendar year has fallen by 47 percent to 5.60 gigawatts against the addition of 10.50 gigawatts in the first nine months of 2022.
Due to issues related to land acquisition and power transmission, the project is getting delayed. Achieving transport connections becomes more challenging due to changes in project duration.
Project developers were also facing a lack of clarity on the application process under the amended rules for long-term connectivity to transport infrastructure. However, the process is expected to become easier after the clarification from the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission at the end of the September quarter.
By the end of September 2023, the country's total solar power generation capacity, including rooftop solar, has reached 69 GW, which is far short of the target.
