Shocking revelations in RTI: SBI sold election bonds worth Rs 14,940 crore, BJP got the most Rs 8516 crore
Some information has been provided under RTI by State Bank of India regarding election bonds. In which some shocking details have come out. According to which, State Bank has sold election bonds worth more than Rs.14906 crore in the last six years. However, there is a clear refusal to give information about which political parties received the amount from this amount. But according to the announcement made by the Election Commission in 2022, 57 percent of the total bond amount has been received by the BJP alone and the remaining 43 percent amount has been received by all other political parties. That is, out of the total sale of bonds, the highest Rs.8516 crores went to the BJP while all the other political parties got Rs.6424 crores.
These shocking details have been revealed in the information provided by the State Bank of India to the citizen of Surat, Sanjay Izhava. According to which 26,024 election bonds were sold in the last 6 years. Out of which 22,215 bonds have been bought by capitalists and 3809 bonds by the middle class. The industrialists of the country seem to have opened their coffers to give election bonds to political parties. As, 99.77 percent of the 26,024 election bonds issued in six years were bought by the rich.
During 6 years, 14094 election bonds worth one crore and 8121 bonds worth ten lakhs have been bought by the rich people of the country. In comparison, 156 election bonds of one thousand and 263 bonds of 10 thousand and 3390 bonds of one lakh have been purchased by the middle class people. SBI has not given any information about which political party got the share of this amount. The SBI has expressly refused to disclose the names of political parties under Section 8(1)(e) of the Right to Information Act, 2005.
It may be noted here that the matter regarding the election bond is currently pending in the Supreme Court. The government has submitted an affidavit in the court and stated that the people have no right to know which political party has received how many election bonds of which amount.
