Due to increasing industrial activity and high temperature, power demand has increased

MUMBAI: As a result of increased industrial activity, higher than normal temperatures and deficit rainfall, electricity demand in the country has increased by 15 percent year-on-year in the three months of August to October of the current year. In October alone, the electricity demand has increased by 20 percent, according to the information received.

Generally, power demand is low during the period of August to October, but this year, a different picture is emerging and there has been a surprise in the power sector.

Power demand peaked with 240 gigawatts on 1st September. As a result of increase in industrial activity and high temperature in the country, the possibility of seeing a continuous increase in power demand is also being expressed. In the current year, there was a pressure on irrigation due to lack of rain in most parts of the country. Power demand is expected to be seven percent higher in the current financial year.
