Thiruvananthapuram, Ta-02 Apr 2020, Thursday
Banks have been instructed to remain in the lockers of the banks for up to 48 hours if they cannot find the proper method for disinfecting the currency notes. A special advisory has been issued not to give the deposited notices to the bank's employees immediately.
Kerala's State Level Bankers Committee has adopted a strategy to create a separate bundle of notes deposited in the banks and keep them in the banks for up to 48 hours. These notices are said to be recycled only after 48 days.
He issued this advisory when it came to the Committee's view that currency notes could also be a source for the spread of Covid-19. The coronavirus can last up to 12 hours on currency notes. We have failed to find a specific method of how to disinfect currency notes. Consumption of chemicals is not advisable as it risks losing currency notes.
Fumigation may be an option but no agency has come up with a sustainable method yet, a report quoted a committee official as saying.
The virus cannot last for more than 12 hours on currency notes, though 48 hours is specified as an additional alert. In addition to maintaining currency notes, banks are also trying to provide new notes to their customers. The Reserve Bank has also agreed to provide new notices. In addition to the currency notes, Coins has been instructed to maintain the same.
