7.5 percent increase in electricity consumption in the first 10 months of the current financial year


New Delhi: During the first 10 months of the current financial year (2023-2024), i.e. during April-January, the country's power consumption in India has increased by 7.5 percent year-on-year to 1,354.97 billion units. Which shows the sign of economic growth in the entire country.

According to government data, electricity consumption in the country has increased to 1354.97 billion units in the April-January period of this financial year, which was 1259.49 billion units in the April-January period of the financial year 2022-23.

It was 1505.91 billion units in the entire financial year 2022-23. Experts believe that the 7.5 percent increase in electricity consumption in the country clearly reflects the increase in economic activity in the first 10 months of this financial year.

There is a sharp increase in power consumption in August, September and October mainly due to industrial activities ahead of the festive season. Experts say that the improvement in economic activity and cold wave conditions will continue to increase electricity consumption in February as well.

In its first advance estimate released in January, the National Statistical Office said the country's economic growth would be 7.3 per cent in 2023-24. The data showed that electricity consumption rose 5.4 per cent to 133.18 billion units in January from 126.30 billion units. is

In January, the maximum power demand in a day increased to 222.32 GW. The maximum power supply was 210.72 GW in January 2023 and 192.18 GW in January 2022.
