Sudden increase in temperature threatens the wheat crop

Image
MUMBAI: The current cold weather in the north and central parts of the country has made conditions favorable for the wheat crop, but a sudden abnormal rise in temperature may reduce the wheat yield, sources in the agriculture ministry said. India may be forced to import wheat in case of fall in yield. India is the largest producer of wheat after China and this year wheat is very important for the government keeping in mind the Lok Sabha elections. Wheat production was affected as a result of high temperatures in 2022 and 2023, which led to reduced stocks in government warehouses. If production declines for the third consecutive year, India may be forced to import wheat, the sources added. In the last two years, the wheat crop was affected by rising temperatures in February and March. The mountainous regions do not experience prolonged cold temperatures due to the lack of widespread snowfall. The government has so far almost avoided importing wheat. Conditions were favorable due to

Image
- The government wants more and more people to migrate to the new tax system Efforts to rein in inflation and boost consumption and the rural economy are likely to accelerate when the Prime Minister presents his sixth consecutive budget on February 1. Experts said one way to boost consumption is to put more money in people's hands, and one of the possible ways to do that is to reduce the tax burden by tinkering with tax slabs or increasing the standard deduction. Another proposal relates to increased funding under the Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme MGNREGA and more payments to farmers. Women and marginalized communities may get additional relief as part of the finance minister's efforts to boost consumption ahead of the general elections. In the interim budget, the government will seek permission from Parliament to meet its expenditur

This is an election year. Much work is to be done in this single budget which was not done in the previous four years.' The officer smiles and says, 'No, boss. This is an election year, so there is a writing grant. So the hassle of making a list of what to do cheaply and what to do expensively is gone.' The boss was spoiled. 'When have we cheapened anything in the budget on which day? Don't let your imagination run wild.' The officer says, 'Sir, but how can the budget be made without imagination?' The boss himself laughed at this. "Instead of talking about a holiday in the preparation of the budget, let your imagination run ahead. Think of the holiday as part of budget preparation.' The officer was confused. 'Sir, you have t

Boolean Bits - Dinesh Parekh However, since the government considers gold and silver as luxury items, some sections also estimate that such duty will not be reduced. In the country's jewelery markets, there were indications that the second round of seasonal buying had started in the markets recently after Makar Sankranti ended. There were reports that marriages are going on in the country and the market has become more crowded as the baby boomer declines. - Consensus for the US in 2023 was that the S&P 500 would fall but it rose 24.2 percent Is it any wonder that economic and financial projections are at a very alarming level, yet the media publishes dozens of projections at the beginning of the year on economic growth and how the markets will perform by the end of the year. Guessing in America is a more formal and organized business. The consensus view for the US for 2023 was that the S&P 500 would fall but it rose 24.2 percent and the Nasdaq rose more than 50 percent. China's stock markets were expected to rise after the drop in Covid but suffered a fall. The boom around predictions of a recession in America disappeared and its gross domestic product rose sharply. The Federal Reserve's interest rate hike was expected to slow consumer spending and business growth, but instead the economy continued to grow, interest rates fell and stock markets rose. On the other hand, significant breakthroughs in artificial intellige

The wave of neo-capitalism that is rapidly spreading in today's modern world

Image
- The Conundrum of Economics - Dhawal Mehta - A free market system is considered the best in a liberal economy As the limitations of communism in practice are revealed, the wave of neoliberalism i.e. neocapitalism has returned in the modern world. Not only in economics but also in politics, the right-wing wave is advancing. In politics, the right-wing wave is called the rightist wave and the extreme right wave is called the extreme right or radical right. The word radical right in English means 'radical' (ie not superimposed) to change. The Radical Right has an element of fanaticism. Right-wing forces in Europe and America have also intensified opposition to immigrants from other countries, and the radical right in Afghanistan over the way a nation is built on Islam and the way blasphemy is executed or a woman suspected of sexual misconduct is stoned to death. Ram Mandir Inauguration: Demand for firecrackers increased Ayodhya is all set for the inauguration ceremony of the Ram temple on January 22. There is tremendous enthusiasm for this across the country and the demand for fireworks to celebrate it has increased. Industry sources say traders in Tamil Nadu's Sivakashi city are seeing a 20 to 30 per cent increase in demand from North India alone compared to last year. 90 percent of the crackers in the country are made in Sivakashi. However, despite the huge demand, manufacturers are not confident that the sales of crackers will be very high as adverse weather has affected their production in the last few days. Due to the recent rains and cyclonic storms in Tamil Nadu, not enough firecrackers have been produced. There was no production from Diwali to Pongal as the conditions were very bad due to incessant rains. Firecracker business in Sivakashi provides direct employment to about 3 lakh people and indirect employment to 5 lakh people.

Demand for commodities like cement, iron, copper, aluminum will increase...

- Bhoo Bazar : Dilip Shah - Vote on account will also have the same effect as the full budget: Government will maintain the importance given to infra and agriculture sector in the interim budget. As Lok Sabha elections will be held in the country in the current calendar year, this time on February 1, not the full budget, but vote on account will be presented. Even the complete budget is not the same now, because instead of making announcements in the annual budget, the government makes announcements of some important schemes and programs in the middle of the year. Thus the interim budget will have an impact on the stock market, but the commodity market does not seem to have much of an impact. Even so, analysts are making different estimates about the effect that the government might have if it makes populist announcements in the run-up to elections. First of all, it should be noted that the government has undertaken an ambitious project to settle everyone in their own homes in the

Amid the recession, IT companies on the path to business transformation...

- Artificial Intelligence is not yet contributing much to revenue and profits, but it is a growing field. The third quarter results of the four major information technology companies and their management comments show that the worst is over in terms of demand slowdown. However, managements of the companies are still cautious about the demand improvement projections in the short term. TCS, HCL Tech, Infosys and Wipro have all done well on the revenue front. Their performance in terms of profit and margin also remained more or less the same. Investors were expecting good earnings due to the surprisingly strong performance of the US economy as the US is a key market for Indian information technology companies. However, while on the one hand management is positive in the sense that the companies believe that the worst is over in terms of demand and margin decline, on the other hand none of them believe that there will be an immediate pick-up in demand. At least two company sources said

Emphasis on capital expenditure to boost economic growth

Image
- Bad impact on investment seen in India like other parts of the world after the global financial crisis The government is emphasizing capital spending to boost economic growth after the end of the pandemic. The idea behind it is that with the help of government capital expenditure, not only the necessary infrastructure but also economic activities will be boosted which will induce the private sector to invest. However, many states have lagged behind in this regard and have been able to reach only a quarter of the target set for the year. A comprehensive study by the World Bank has once again underlined the role of investment in driving economic growth. The study was published in the latest Global Economic Outlook report. After the global financial crisis, investment in India, like other parts of the world, was adversely affected. India faced a dual balance sheet problem where both corporate and banks' balance sheets were under pressure. We have now fully recovered from that per
