India's November wholesale inflation falls to 21-month low

India's annual wholesale price-based inflation fell to a 21-month low of 5.85 percent year-on-year in November. Because, food prices had decreased. WPI-based inflation was 8.39 percent in October. It is the second month that WPI inflation has remained below double digits. Before October, it had been above 10 percent for 18 consecutive months since April 2021.

"The decrease in the inflation rate in November 2022 was mainly contributed by the decrease in prices of food items, base metals, textiles, chemicals and chemical products and paper products compared to the same month of the previous year," the commerce ministry said. per cent, was recorded in vegetables, followed by a decrease of 19.19 per cent in onion.

Inflation rate based on WPI food index declined to 2.17 percent in November 2022 from 6.48 percent in October 2022. The highest inflation was recorded in the fuel and power category. It is followed by primary articles at the rate of 5.52 percent with an annual growth of 17.35 percent. Fuel and power was the only category month after month. which recorded a price hike. WPI-based inflation was 2.84 percent as compared to October. All other categories have recorded negative inflation.
